Terms of Service

Last updated 12 October 2026

These terms cover your use of Shelf, the desktop app, and this website. By installing or using Shelf you agree to them. They are written to be read, so here is what they mean in plain words.

Your license

When you buy Shelf you get a personal license to use it on your own computers, for as long as you like. It is a one time purchase, not a subscription. You may not resell, share or publish your license key, or sell copies of the app.

Free trial

You can try every feature of Shelf for free for a limited time before buying. After the trial ends, a license key is needed to keep using it. Your library stays on your computer either way.

Your files

Shelf reads your files to show and search them, and only on your computer. It never uploads them. Shelf only removes files when you ask it to, and it moves them to your system trash so you can put them back. Programs and scripts are never run without asking you first. You are responsible for the files you choose to remove or empty from the trash, so please keep backups of anything important.

Refunds

If Shelf doesn't work for you, email us within 14 days of buying and we will refund you. Purchases are handled by our payment provider, which may also apply its own refund terms.

Updates

Updates to Shelf are free for license holders. We may add, change or remove features over time to make Shelf better.

No warranty

We work hard to make Shelf reliable, but it is provided as it is, without any warranty. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss of data, profits or other damage that comes from using or not being able to use Shelf. Where the law does not allow these limits, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for Shelf.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Continuing to use Shelf after that means you accept the new terms.
