Privacy Policy

Last updated 12 October 2026

Shelf is a file finder that runs on your computer. The short version: your files, what is inside them, and how you use Shelf never leave your computer. We do not collect, store or sell any of it.

What Shelf reads, and where it stays

What Shelf sends over the internet

Nothing about your files or your activity. Shelf works fully offline. When online license checks and automatic updates are added, Shelf will only send your license key and a random identifier for your computer, and ask whether a newer version exists. Neither contains anything about your files.

Buying a license

When you buy Shelf, payment is handled by our payment provider, which acts as the seller and processes your card and billing details under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details so we can send your license key and help you if something goes wrong. We never see your full card number.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling Shelf and deleting its folder removes the index. On Windows it lives in your local app data folder, on Linux in ~/.local/share/shelf and ~/.cache/shelf. To have your purchase details removed, email us and we will delete them, except where we must keep a record of the sale by law.

Children

Shelf is not aimed at children and collects no personal information from anyone through the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
